Tune in for family favorites.
Our family has a wonderful tradition that I hope will continue for generations. That tradition is the family reunion complete with family music. Many of my mother's siblings are musicians as was my grandfather. Some play violin, some guitar, some piano or all of the above. Harmonica was also played by a few. At the reunion, we get together and play those old songs, and sometimes newer ones get brought in too. This is my absolute favorite group of people to play with, and I love to play these well known songs. One of my favorite old songs is Abilene, a song that was recorded by Buck Owens. Another old favorite is Anytime which was recorded by Eddy Arnold. I never heard those early recordings, but I learned them from Uncle Pat, and from Uncle Will. I sing them in different keys than they do, naturally, so my lyric sheets reflect that. This post is especially directed at any cousins who have been missing out, and want the chance to learn some songs that everybody knows. Maybe you'll get a chance to come out for the reunion and join the family band! If there are songs that you're looking for, just let me know!

Song of the Week
I absolutely love discovering songs that are new to me, especially by my favorite artists like Neil Young. Today I happened across a song called "Wrecking Ball" and it's my new fave. I found a You-Tube of Emmy Lou covering it, and Neil himself performing it as well. It's from the Freedom album, which is also new to me. Sorry, Neil, I just lost touch with your music somewhere I guess. Now I've found you again. Hooray!

Just a quick note to start on...
No self respecting blogger would fail to mention what inspired such a blogger to blog in the first place. I intend for this blog to be a place of resonant recollections of the events that brought me to this place in my musical existence. I learned to harmonize by listening to my mother and singing along with her as she harmonized with the music on the radio. She also sang in the car whenever we went anywhere...everywhere. Here is a picture of my mother and I singing together at her place one recent evening. My family is bound together by strings...acoustic strings that are aligned with our heart-strings.
We were probably singing "Don't Fence Me In" in this photo. What a great time!
